How to do an Effective Artist Interview

  • Performance High Voice and Music Studio 3101 Walnut Street Denver, CO, 80205 United States (map)

Interviews are a great marketing tool for musicians, providing a platform to reach a wide audience, promote new music releases and shows, and build their brand and public image by connecting with readers and listeners on a personal level. Often, interviews are easily accessible to artists in their local markets on all forms of media - radio, television, podcasts, and even print. But most artists don't know how to do an effective interview and make the mistake of letting the interviewer direct the conversation. Armed with knowledge, practice, and preparation, you will be able to capitalize on the opportunity to talk about what YOU want to talk about.

Coach Justin Long has done thousands of interviews, sometimes doing as many as seven or eight per DAY while on tour nationally with his band, No Address. Attend this class to learn how to conduct an artist interview that achieves your promotional goals, and effectively gets your message and identity across.

This class is a great follow-up to our Artist Development classes in Finding Your Artist Identity and Developing Your Story, and Writing an Artist Bio. But even if you haven't taken those classes, you will still be able to craft your artist interview strategy during this class.

And if you are releasing music, we can connect you with a radio station that will interview you!
